Motor City Youth Theatre

Nancy Florkowski, artistic director of MCYT and retired South Redford Schools teacher (32 years), holds a BA in Education from Eastern Michigan University, BA in Theatre from Wayne State University, M. Ed., and Ed. Spec. degrees in Special Education from Wayne State University; and M.A. in Drama/Theatre for the Young (EMU). Nancy studied Children’s Theatre at Coventry College of Education in the UK and Russian theatre at The Moscow Art Theater in Russia. She has directed over 100 productions at MCYT, and schools, and co-directed children’s theatre productions at Oakland Community College and Wayne State University. She has appeared in local radio and TV commercials and community and dinner theatre since 1977. She recently completed her BA in theatre at WSU where she also teaches Integrating the Arts in the Elementary Classroom (Drama segment) as a part time teacher. Motor City Youth Theatre started as Nancy’s Master’s Thesis project in Children’s Theatre at Eastern Michigan University.
